Gay Day” Another Holiday That Won’t Excuse Me from School

The California State Legislator is currently twiddling with a certain bill AB 2567. If you read it through you will realize that they are proposing to have a Holiday celebrating Harvey Milk.

If you have no clue who Harvey is he was a ground breaker in poltics for gay people. Time magazine describes notes him as “The first openly gay man elected to any substantial political office in the history of the planet.” Sadly he was assassinated. If passed May 22(Day After the White Riots and  My Birthday) of each year  will be considered as Harvey Milk Day.

This bill requires the Governor to proclaim May
22 of each year as Harvey Milk Day, and designates that
date as having special significance in public school and
educational institutions and encourages those entities to
conduct suitable commemorative exercises on that date.

So in essence it will be just as important as holidays like Martin Luther King Day, Columbus Day and pretty much any holiday that banks get off of, but not schools.

Oh, but this bill has not been passed yet. The ever rowdy Christan Conservative groups are calling arms and mobilizing their intolerant forces. They are going after swing Democrats and trying to have them stop this holiday from occurring. Really we let you guys have Jesus is born day, Jesus Dies day, Jesus comes back to life day. The least you can do is let us have one holiday about a brave soul who set the political ground work for a whole minority.

In related news a movie about Harvey Milk is in production at this time. With Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Emile Hirsch each playing a major role this movie is sure to be a success.

Here is an audio clip that Harvey recored if he were to be assassinated

Update:Senate and Cogress People Passed it. Up to governer now. Will he veto it stay tuned.
