A forgotten Gem from 2008

I must be really out of the loop because this jem, Janelle Monae hasn’t hit my radar/windsheild until now. Despite being nom­i­nated for a grammy and hav­ing such an epic music video and zany style she has been wad­ing around in the under­ground stream for too long. The music video/short film is genius. A good level of ambi­gu­ity, a Rachel Mad­dow prepish style, and an amaz­ing sci-fi con­cept. The danc­ing, the move­ment, the awk­ward­ness and grace, com­pletely in sync. The song has a fresh non-generic feel to it.

Expect her to “suc­ceed”, Expect Perez to blog about her, Expect Hip­sters to like her con­cept, Expect her to “succeed”.

I like her clothes, I like her danc­ing, I liker her video, I like her hair, I like her style, I like her, I like her song too. Rearrange that any­way you want. It  still cre­ates the same product.
