Oh hello. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten you. I’ve been checking up on you every now and then. Well blog it has been fun, and its still is going to be fun I assure you. I just have taken the time to acclimate myself to all of this newness. You see, I just haven’t had the time to sit down, and really give you some good hard loving. Well blog let me tell you about my college life.
As you may know I’m going to Rutgers University. I got in comfortably and cheap. For housing I applied to the Demarest Dorm. It is known as the weird, hippesque, and gay friendly place with the one eyed smiley face. Regardless of its dubious reputation it outshines every other dorm. Move in day was rainy and everyone seemed aloof or preoccupied, and busy. Unlike the rest of the dorms Demarest was blasting music and there was a happy crowd of tie-dye shirted folk willing to lug and trudge my stuff up to the second floor.
I met my roommate.
I moved beds.
I crammed stuff into the room.
I socialized.
We did some very standard icebreakers. We did show and tell. I brought my bible aka. Colbert’s “I am America and so can you”. Someone else brought Colbert along as well.
I socialized.
I got online.
That night all of us socializing freshmen folk partook in some revealing icebreakers. I learned of the people who like Animal Collective, I learned of the sexual things. I learned of the people in the dorm.
At about 4:00 am we were all stirred from our sleep by a screeching fire alarm. The police and firetrucks came. A officer gave us a little speech about how they know who you are and that its jail time. The speech came to an end with a single phrase that still resonates with me.
I have loved Mika in the past, but this music video is quite frustrating. From the very first frame this was aggravating. The cassette player was crude and extremely off putting for me. It just comes off as “Hey look at this zany piece of older technology that I use instead of an ipod as a way to convey that I am deep and all alternative,” The video then progressed into a bunch of zany dancing in a zany room. The issue is that it was was weird, but not really weird enough. It has a safe weird coating. A coating that lets the artist appear deep and really hip and cool, but at the same time lets the song be some mainstream noise to be bought up on Itunes.
In comparison to previous Mika songs We are Golden is mediocre. It has a generic feel and doesn’t quite resonate beyond any of the other poppy noise going around. The tune feels a bit repetitive, and the breaks in the song are overpowered by the chorus making the song seem overly blaring. I have listened to a few other songs from his upcoming album and they sound a lot more promising than this zany mess.
This clip had me drenched in tears of laughter which is quite hard to do. My favorite clip from Real Time ever so far I guess ya. I kind of get the feeling that Bill is a bit full of himself. Though I bet if you asked him he would humorously agree. I kind of pity those American Poets though. Their minds have been twisted by sexual repression and lack of self control. Shame that they besmirch the Republican’s family values facade. hysterical
Not my favorite song and I don’t quite like their music video. I know they are trying to be all cool artsy fartsy, but seriously all the stuff they have in the video has been done before and been done in a more humorous and palatable way.
My review of Bruno in the youtube format which I am too lazy to summarize into text. Simply put, see it and be prepared to see a bunch of “dirty” things.
